Founders Student Center Construction

For the past 2-3 years, OU-Tulsa Student Affairs and OUTSA (OU-Tulsa Student Association) have been leading the effort for the OU-Tulsa campus to have a student union - a space available for students 24/7.  In May 2011 the OU-Tulsa Library moved into their beautiful new building, and turned over their old space to our students.  Construction began over the summer on student union, which has been named the "Founders Student Center" in recognition of our lead donor on the project.  Current construction estimates place our completion date in the March/April 2012 range, and we are excited to open the new space.  Founders Student Center will include the following features:

• Merkel Family Foundation Lounge - couches, study tables, & more
• Coffee Shop - made to order speciality drinks or coffee
• Game Room - pool table, ping-pong tables, TVs and video games
• Bookstore - 5-times the current space for our campus bookstore
• OU-Tulsa Student Affairs - improved student access to our office

OU-Tulsa Supported "Turn Tulsa Pink" Today!

Approximately 200 OU-Tulsa students, faculty and staff made a vibrant statement of support for the Turn Tulsa Pink initiative.  To learn more about Turn Tulsa Pink, please visit their website.

Walk-Up Flu Shot Clinics

Student Health and Student Affairs are providing free flu shots for OU-Tulsa students.  Flu season will likely be in full swing before we know it, so we want all of our students to have access to the flu vaccine.  Our next walk-up flu shot clinic will take place Tuesday, October 25th from 9am-11am in Founders Hall.  You do not need an appointment for this walk-up flu shot clinic.

Future walk-up flu shot clinics (all in Founders Hall):

• Thursday, November 3rd, 8-10am
• Tuesday, November 8th, 11am-1pm
• Tuesday, November 15th, 9-11am

If it is not possilbe to make it to one of these walk-up clinics, please call Student Health at 918-619-4565 to schedule your individual appointment.

Turn OU-Tulsa PINK

In a statement of solidarity and support for the Turn Tulsa Pink iniative, President Gerry Clancy has declared Tuesday, October 25, 2011 as Turn OU-Tulsa Pink day at OU-Tulsa.  President Clancy is encouraging all OU-Tulsa students, faculty, staff and residents to wear pink to raise awareness for the women and children that are affected by cancer in the greater Tulsa area.  You will also notice large pink bows going up on light posts on and around campus, plus our large Seed Sower statue at the intersection of 41st & Yale will be decked out with pink pumpkins and a large pink sash to support Turn Tulsa Pink.

We would also like everyone wearing pink to join us for a picture at the Seed Sower statue at 41st & Yale at 10am.  The photo will appear in an ad in the Tulsa World on Thursday, October 27th and feature our OU-Tulsa programs and our community impact.

FREE Lunch for Student Wearing PINK!
Those students wearing pink clothes (prominently) are invited to Student Affaris at Noon for a free lunch from Chick-fil-A (while supplies last).

OUTSA Happy Hour

The second OU-Tulsa Happy Hour of the semester will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 20, 2011, at 4:30pm in Founders Hall.  We will have drinks, chips, salsa, queso, and pizza......all for FREE!  Also, a variety of board games, video games, and ping pong will be available for all to enjoy

OU-Tulsa Student Affairs and OUTSA began hosting Happy Hours on the OU-Tulsa campus in November 2009, and they have been a big hit since then.  Happy Hour's are open only to OU-Tulsa students (no guests), and are meant to provide an outlet for social interactions across all OU-Tulsa academic disciplines.

"Coffee with Clancy" a Success

This morning five OU-Tulsa students (representing 4 different academic programs) had the opportunity to sit down with President Gerry Clancy and myself to discuss the student experience inside and out of the classroom at OU-Tulsa.  Some of the topics discussed included the construction of the Founders Student Center, the employment outlook for our soon-to-be graduates, faculty accessibility, the size and focus of our campus, housing options, meal plans and dining options on and around campus, and campus security.  The discussion lasted over an hour and seemed to give all involved parties an opportunity to better understand one another and learn something new about our campus/community in the process.

We are happy to announce that the Coffee with Clancy program will continue once per month throughout the fall and spring semester, as an opportunity for our students to discuss pertinent issues with Dr. Clancy in a relaxed, conversational setting.  More information will be coming soon regarding our next scheduled date and time.

Student Rights & Responsibilities Code

In September 2011, the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents instituted the new Student Rights & Responsibilities Code and the associated Student Rights & Responsibilities Code Procedures documents.  These two documents make up the rights and responsibilities of every student on the OU-Tulsa campus, in addition to those on the OUHSC and OU-Norman campuses.  I encourage all OU-Tulsa students to review these documents and use them as a resource throughout their time at OU-Tulsa.  Please stop by Student Affairs, room 1C53, if you have any questions about these documents.
